Our city’s future must ensure that we preserve our history but keep pace with the growing needs of our city. As mayor I will have the responsibility to advance La Marque’s livability and resilience through commitments around public safety, infrastructure, public services, economic development, and
sustainability.
Public safety is a high priority for me. Safety is the whole city’s mission. As mayor, my plan to restore basic public safety is a modern approach to both solving and preventing crime. Safety in every neighborhood is a must. My safety plan is focused on supporting neighbors who are building community and resilience in their neighborhoods. Studies show that improving neighborhood conditions can reduce crime and improve safety and well-being. I also support a Youth Anti-Violence Agenda that local organizations have called for and drafted.
Our city’s law enforcement facility no longer serves our needs. The building is old and has limited space for our officers and staff to work in. As unpopular as it has been to discuss, we must work to secure funding for a public safety facility that will serve the needs of our growing city and staff. It’s an investment into making our city safer and attracting the best law enforcement professionals. Due to our geographical location to the Gulf and chemical plants, emergency management goes hand in hand with our city’s public safety, especially critical in the face of natural disasters, accidental and human-made catastrophes. This is also a high priority issue and one we must always be vigilant about.
I seek improvement and or development of disseminating information to residents in a timely manner. Our city needs a communication strategy that is up to date. It should include how we alert residents of potential hazards, crime alerts, inclement weather, and other vital information.
Keeping the community well informed through clear and precise communication, by use of cell broadcasting and app-based solutions. We should also focus on finding methods that help us communicate with residents who have limited tech access or language barriers. Most
importantly, we must build relationships with our residents in order to gain their trust and confidence.
Infrastructure fails due to poor project management, delivery practices, undefined project requirements and goals, inaccurate estimates, poor communication, persistent underfunding, and aging infrastructure. Priorities must be set, timelines adhered to and accountability. We
must work to secure funding sources to fix our streets and drainage.
Our city’s economic development should be a vital city service that helps enhance our community today and for future generations. Creating jobs for our residents and becoming a business-friendly city. Expanding small business opportunities. Additional tax revenue is needed to improve our city. Our city’s economic development must be strategic with our investments and needs. We must have and maintain a safe environment to attract and retain businesses. We must have an infrastructure that meets the demands of our aging infrastructure and our growth. The goal is to make La Marque attractive to live, work, play and do business.
The city of La Marque is on the cusp of expansion and becoming a notable destination, with the re-utilization of the Gulf Greyhound Park as a concert venue. Our children will have new schools and greater
opportunities for learning in TCISD. College of The Mainland continues to expand their degree programs and renovations. Our citizens continue to ask for a grocery store that is located within the city limits. We can make this happen. There is a commitment to making our city safer. The improvement of our parks that are located on the East side of the city should include accessibility to recreational opportunities for our youth and seniors. Mac McGaffey Highland Bayou and Mahan Park are assets to our city. They have the potential to become popular sports and outdoor recreational destinations for our citizens and visitors to our area. We are a diverse city. Together we celebrate our culture, food, and history. East side of La Marque is slowly making improvements in the renaissance district. Let us continue these efforts. As we grow, we are on this journey to carve out our identity, the past, present and the future.
A New Way Forward.
